About the Program
Spire Cross Country practices are held on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday in the Springfield/Annandale area, with training focused on strength, cardio and speed.
Throughout the season, most athletes participate in 8-9 local cross country meets, competing against a variety of schools including public, private, and other homeschool teams. Race distances are typically 5k (3.1 miles) for high schoolers. Middle school race distances vary from 3-5K.
The program is challenging and competitive. The season runs from August to November.
HAVE A QUESTION?
Frequently asked
questions
What type of equipment is required?
A good pair of running shoes are a must. Suggested but not required is a running watch with a stopwatch function. Racing spikes are not required.
What if I can't make every practice?
Because track is a team event, it’s important to consider the time commitment to daily training, as dedication and consistency are key to success and prevention of injury. Contact us to discuss potential conflicts before registering.
Do we still run if the weather is bad?
We run in rain, snow, heat, and cold. However, if the weather is particularly precarious, an email will be sent at least two hours before the meeting time to communicate how practice will be handled.
I'm injured, what should I do?
Let the coaches know immediately. A treatment and training plan will be discussed with you.
Can my 12-year-old join?
This would be considered on a case by case basis. Contact us to inquire.
I'm not homeschooled, can I still join?
While this is specifically a homeschool running team, some exceptions can be made. Contact us with questions.
